Educational Advocacy
Children with learning and other disabilities may be eligible for accommodations, modifications and special services under the law.  An educational advocate can help parents navigate complex laws and school policies to ensure each child receives the services they are entitled to.  

What does an Educational Advocate do?
  • Attends meetings at school to represent the student and the parents.
  • Reviews school records and make sure all records are made available to the parents.
  • Determines problems interfering with the educational needs of the child.
  • Develops and suggests strategies for both school and home to help the child succeed.
  • Becomes part of your child’s educational team.
  • Develops goals and monitor progress to help ensure the child’s success.
  • Ensures the school is held accountable and follows the laws by providing services for the child.
  • Provides parents with information and options if the school and parents cannot come to an agreement.
  • Ensure that parents fully understand any plan created and provide additional information as needed.
